    Hallifax, Nova Scotia

Filmed in Halifax, Nova Scotia and featuring live performances by Dog Day, North Of America, The Stolen Minks, The Superfantastics, Windom Earle, The Just Barelys and many more, this is the story of a community, a house and a very long weekend. Not just a music documentary, it's a snapshot of the city's vibrant independant music scene at its most intimate. Captured in a house that has long functioned as a hub for creativity in the city, it follows a cast of musicians and artists as they record a document of their own time. Bands fill every room in the house, from the bathroom to the attic. On-the-fly, direct and genuinely urgent, 6015 Willow follows twenty Halifax bands over three days, sweating buckets and blowing fuses.

    Died Young Stayed Pretty

    Cinema du Parc, 9pm

Film Maker : Eileen Yaghoobian 2008

Died Young Stayed Pretty examines the political and cultural landscape of North America as it is reflected, critiqued, and dismantled in poster art. The film features artists and groups such as Art Chantry, Jay Ryan, Rob Jones, Print Mafia, and The Ames Brothers, who have designed posters for the likes of The Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, and Sonic Youth. These posters paper the urban landscape as promotional tools, creating an extremely public and temporal forum for political discourse, insied jokes, and arresting imagery. Yaghoobian candidly captures the artists discussing the function of their chosen medium.

Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell

    Cinema du Parc, 9pm

Filmmaker: Matt Wolf Montreal Premiere, 2008

Arthur Russell: Singer-songwriter, avant-garde composer, cellist and disco producer. These were just a few hats that he wore before losing his fight with AIDS in 1992. After running away from home he joined a commune in San Francisco where he would meet his mentor Allen Ginsberg. Eventually he moved to New York and met Philip Glass, among other composers. Due to Russell’s extreme perfectionism and obsessive nature, his work never quite reached the audience it should have. Matt Wolf`s portrait beautifully documents the artistic and the private facets of Russel’s life.

Followed by the Official Film Pop Party at the Academy Club It’s All Over My Face, hosted and DJed by DJs Slutsky & Watts III

    Welcome to Nollywood

Filmmaker: Jamie Meltzer Montreal Premiere, 2007

The advent of the digital revolution in Nigeria has spawned a slew of entrepreneurs in the Nigerian film industry. They have been churning out films at the astounding rate of approximately 2,400 a year. After the U.S and India, Nigeria is the third largest producer of feature films. American filmmaker Jamie Meltzer decided he would take it upon himself to capture the booming industry by heading there to profile several filmmakers and capture the appeal of what has come to be known as the most popular cinema in all of West Africa: `Nollywood` films.

    God`s Own Country

God`s Own Country is Nollywood USA`s first short-film shot by Nigerian born filmmaker Femi Agbayewa. The film examines the idea of trying to make a new start in a new place. Part of the appeal of moving is the hope for something better; but, for Ike Ajayi (played by Dauda Momodou) leaving his life as a lawyer in Nigeria in order to start anew in the big city is not what he had imagined.

An in-depth discussion with artists, promoters, and thinkers from the African and American hip-hop scenes. In rapidly urbanising African societies with a majority youth demographic, rap represents hope for the future, providing a means for creative-self expression, community, and education.

What can we learn from the "multiple personalities" of rap as it has existed and continues to evolve in different communities and socio-economic conditions? What are some key points of convergence and divergence in the exchange of subject matter, styles, and symbols? How does this contribute to a debate about the future of rap?
